Automakers are always talking about targeting the youth market, so they build a fun car that ticks every box... except price. But there used to be a time when cheap cars were everywhere, they were accessible, and they were fun. That time was the early 1990s, as Jack Baruth will now explain.


Cheap cars today don’t fit the same bill as cars like the Mazda 323, VW Fox, Ford Escort, and others did in the early 90s. They need to be connected. They need to be luxurious. But they aren’t attainable for someone working an after school job at the local supermarket.
