What do the Gallardo and the manual gearbox have in common? Both are nearing the end of their respective runs at Lamborghini. The Ferrari 360 Modena was the competition when the Gallardo made its debut nine years ago (!) and nowadays, no one buys the old-school gated manual anymore. Sadly, the present and future is all flappy paddles.

So Lamborghini will send the Gallardo and the manual transmission into the sunset with a bang. Lamborghini of America chief operating officer Michael Lock told us that a special edition Gallardo is on the way that strips out many luxuries, is rear-wheel-drive only, and plants a manual shifter in the car's center console (like the one you see in the Balboni edition above).
