Here's an interesting conundrum for you: Jason Cammisa just got out of a Euro-spec 2015 Volkswagen Golf R after running a full battery of instrumented tests (Disclosure: no skidpad numbers due to tire restrictions).

Every metric beats the outgoing car.

Some highlights: 0-60 mph takes 5.2 seconds, a half-second improvement. It needs 18 feet less to stop from 80 mph. Keep going down the list, and it's all good news for the Golf R.

Or, it's almost all good news.

The new Golf R's has a problem, you see, and it will sit on the same showroom floors: the Mk 7 VW GTI.

The GTI is just too damned good. Perhaps controversially, Cammisa actually prefers the GTI over its more muscular sibling.

Read his reasoning and see if you agree.
