The cop lights are bright deep in the heart of Texas

If you're wondering what inspired our investigation into the speeding laws in all 50 states yesterday, it was Editor Zach Bowman's surprisingly jovial encounter with a fine law enforcement officer in the great state of Texas. It was one of many encounters: with a tumbleweed (which ended badly for the tumbleweed); a drifter, and the lonely open expanses of the American West.

His steed was the trusty Million Mile Miata, which makes up for its yet-to-be-realized name by managing to be far more enjoyable than its mangy, sun-gnawed exterior may suggest. It got an adamantium-graft of Flyin' Miata goodies part-way to its rendezvous with the steep banking at Daytona—that installment is yet to come.

Until then, you can follow the MMM's continuing adventures on Facebook.
