We put this man in a car and intentionally crashed it at 40 mph

Have vehicles gotten so safe that we'd strap one of our editors, John Krewson, into a car and crash it at 40 mph? We hope so. Because that's exactly what we did. Our premise was simple: we think cars have reached peak safety, and we wanted to find a way to prove it. The automakers and official test facilities wouldn't give us the time of day.

So we had to find another way. And that way came in the form of a man who's been in 990 intentional car crashes. He has his own way of doing things. And he'd let us ride along as he slammed an old Las Vegas taxi into a derelict Subaru at around 40 mph.

In case you were wondering, John was a little worse for wear for a few days, but he's fine. Those cars? They're toast.

And our premise? Find out what Krewson learned after being popped in the face with an airbag right over here.
