The 996 is the one 911 that doesn’t engender a feeling of awe and reverence among the Porsche faithful. Instead, it gets scorn and disdain and values have plummeted. But it isn’t a bad car. You should stop saying it sucks. Here’s why.

The thing about the 996 is that it’s the first mass produced 911. The first with a water cooled engine. The first to share some very visible parts with a less expensive model in the lineup. People hated that, some still do.


But they’re unnecessarily bashing a car that actual has a lot of merits, and is actually a screaming deal. Let us explain.
